Dear Carbondale Community School Students, Staff, and Families,
I am honored and thrilled to introduce myself as the new principal of Carbondale Community School beginning July 1st. As I step into this role, I do so with deep appreciation for the strong sense of community, dedication to lifelong learning, and commitment to social justice and responsibility that define CCS. It is a privilege to join and serve a school within my home community—one with a rich tradition of fostering engaged, curious, and compassionate learners.
This year marks my 24th in education, with the past 23 years spent serving students and families in the Roaring Fork Valley. Most recently, I have been the Assistant Principal at Aspen High School and Co-Director of District Safety, Security, and Prevention. My journey in education has also included roles as a K-5 special education teacher, a second-grade classroom teacher, and a high school interventionist. Throughout my career, I have been guided by a deep belief in the power of education to transform lives and by the strong relationships I’ve built with students, families, and colleagues. I am eager to bring that same passion to CCS.
What drew me to Carbondale Community School is the way it lives its values—Social Justice, Community, Responsibility, and Lifelong Learning—not just in words, but in daily practice. I am committed to upholding and strengthening these values by fostering a school environment where every student feels seen, heard, and empowered. Together, we will continue to cultivate academic excellence, ensuring that students are challenged, engaged, and inspired to reach their full potential. Additionally, I look forward to expanding our community partnerships and collaborating with families, local organizations, and businesses to support CCS’s future aspirations and provide meaningful learning opportunities for our students.
I am excited to meet each of you and work in partnership to continue the incredible work of CCS. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, introduce yourselves, and share your hopes for the future of our school. You are welcome to contact me at my new CCS email boliver@discovercompass.org.
With gratitude and excitement,
Becky Oliver
